I have been involved with G4C for over four years; initially with the G4C North West committee, then North West Chair and now the National Co-Chair! G4C provides a unique environment whereby those who are new to industry can find camaraderie, share ideas and to use the network as a platform for getting their voices heard in industry. The G4C network is an opportunity to be a the forefront of innovative industry thinking and best practice in the sector. The last 18 months alone has seen members of the G4C network visited parliament, produced and contributed to industry thought-pieces, provided valuable feedback regarding the implementation of the Value Toolkit and, through the Virtual Project, have embarked on carrying out tangible schemes to improve industry practices and change the image of the industry. We have also established a monthly virtual ‘drop-in’ session whereby G4C members can discuss key industry issues with their peers in a judgement free, “no such thing as a daft question” environment- just see our Events page for more details!
I first joined G4C as a newly qualified construction solicitor as an opportunity to meet other industry professionals and gain a better understanding of the breadth of the industry, the roles within it and both the innovations and difficulties being faced by the sector on a practical level. The G4C network has provided this and more; the connections I have made within and as a result of my involvement with G4C have been and continue to be invaluable as I develop my career.
I have a particular personal interest in promoting and advocating careers in the construction industry to young people through improved accessibility, better industry image and raising awareness of the breadth of professions and roles available; which I hope to use my position as National Co-Chair to further. Professionally, while I’m obviously passionate about all aspects of construction law(!), my key interests are in construction procurement and contracting models as well as the implementation of technology and innovation.
